Farewell to Ian Urquhart after 22 years

A stalwart of Powell and Harber’s management team for over two decades, Ian Urquhart retired in October, after 22 years as Company Accountant. Originally working as a qualified Chartered Accountant, Ian took a brave career choice aged 45, joining Powell and Harber in 1996, drawn to the industry by the chance to see direct results of his actions and decisions.

When Ian joined the company, it was managed by founders Bill Harber and Tony Powell and was emerging from the recession of the 90’s. Steady growth, a cautious management style and a focus on quality, enabled Powell and Harber to weather the second recession of Ian’s career, when the crash of 2007 hit.

Ian puts his outstanding loyalty and commitment to the company down to the good working atmosphere and the camaraderie of a great team of people, including some fellow long- servers. Whilst he looks forward to reducing his handicap and exploring new pastimes, Ian is confident that Powell and Harber is in safe hands, as part of the Goodfish Group “The loyalty of Powell and Harber’s customers enabled us to grow organically – I am sure that Gregory Macdonald will bring a refreshing new style that will help the company pick up the pace” he said.
